Companions of the Prophet, from the word shahabah (ash-shahaabah, الصحابه) are those who know and see first hand the Prophet Muhammad, to help fight and die in a Muslim state.
Ibn Hajar al-Shafi'i Asqalani once said:
"Ash-Shabi (friend) is the person who met with the Prophet Muhammad, believe in him and died in a state of Islam"
Most Muslims define their friends as those who know the Prophet Muhammad, believe in his teachings, and died in a state of Islam. The main companions are usually mentioned by 50 to 60 names, that they are very close to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Companions of the Prophet Muhammad is also called disciples.

Identification of the companions of the Prophet, including status and its level is important in the Islamic world because it can be used to evaluate the validity of a hadith or actions of the Prophet narrated by them.
